Physics

Rated 1st in UK for 'student satisfaction related to degree quality' in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2015

Physics courses offer excellent employment opportunities as well as a strong core physics education with an emphasis on transferrable skills.

It is a fascinating subject which not only helps us to understand how the physical universe operates, but also underpins many of the technologies that we use in our everyday lives.‌

Our research contributed to success in the Research Excellence Framework 2014, where our submission in General Engineering, including Physics, came top in Scotland, and seventh in the UK.

The five-year MSci degree is the standard programme for professional physicists intending a career in Physics research or in a Physics focused industry. In addition, we also offer four-year BSc Honours and joint Honours degree programmes.

At Dundee much of our research focus is at interdisciplinary boundaries, trying to solve not only big problems in the physical sciences, but also in biology and medical science as well. These research themes underpin our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, developing highly skilled graduates well suited to a wide range of careers upon graduation.
