The Stephen Fry Award rewards those who have volunteered their own time to represent the University to public audiences and is a measure of how highly valued public outreach is regarded at University and College levels at the University of Dundee.
The prize is strongly supported by Professor Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor. Who said of the award
"The Stephen Fry Award for Public Engagement, is a terrific opportunity to acknowledge and reward the efforts of our academic staff and research students in continuing to bring research and practice to our local community."
It recognises an individual or group for work such as hosting school visits, talks and other public events or through publishing and broadcasting.
The annual prize is open to everyone studying or working within the University. Individuals or groups of up to six members of staff and students can apply.
The nomination process for the 2013 awards will run from Monday 22nd October to Friday 7th December 2012.
Everyone nominated for the University-wide Stephen Fry award will automatically be considered for their College's independent public engagement awards.

On Friday 13th January 2013 the University of Dundee was delighted to announce the winners of the first Stephen Fry Award for Excellence in Public Engagement with Research.
This annual award recognises the work of our outstanding communicators in improving understanding of the research and practice of the University to a wider audience. The winners received a trophy and £1500 prize money to use towards their future communication activities.
The Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification were awarded the 2012 Stephen Fry Award for Excellence in Public Engagement with Research.
Prof. Charles McKean, from the School of Humanities was awarded an Honorary Stephen Fry Award for his life time achievements in engaging the public with his research in Scottish architectural history.
Dr Karen Petrie from the School of Computing was also awarded a certificate in recognition of her highly commended public engagement work.
