What is Technology Transfer?

The University of Dundee has an active technology transfer programme. This includes licensing university technology to industry, collaborative research programmes and spinning out companies.

The University currently earns in excess of £1 m per annum in licensing income and has several high profile research collaborations with industry which have been attracted by the cutting edge research at the university.

The University has spun out 20 companies, many of these reflecting strengths in lifesciences and engineering. Visit the Spin-out Companies page in the Fact File section of this site.

Research and Innovation Services encourages the technology transfer process in a variety of ways: from the creation of a seed fund for research with commercial potential, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), to specialist support for university spinouts including  pre-incubation and incubator space in and around campus.

The university's most recent initiative to encourage knowledge transfer is The Innovation Portal a joint project with the University of Abertay and The James Hutton Institute to engage with companies in the Tayside area wishing to innovate.

Dundee University Incubator (DUI) provides 12 high quality lab and office space for technology based companies. DUI is located next to the University of Dundee's city centre campus on the Dundee Technopole. Further information can be found at the DUI website www.dundeeincubator.com
