- The University has patents and patent applications covering 85 technologies and earns on average over £1m per annum in licensing income from its licensed technologies.
- The University has over 20 spin-out companies and 3 associated start-ups
- 13 of these are lifescience and medical device companies.
- 19 spin-outs have emerged since 2000.
- Spin-outs, start-ups and inward investment companies have created over 600 jobs in the local economy
- The university has major collaborative research programmes with the pharmaceutical industry in the areas of cell signalling and translational medicine.
