Students in full-time education are generally exempt from Council Tax. Students not resident in the University’s halls of residence must apply to their local authority for exemption and links to their webpages are included below. Twice a year the University provides a list of students to the following local authorities (Dundee, Angus, Perth & Kinross (Also, see application forms for Perth & Kinross), and Fife). They use these lists to verify that you are entitled to the exemption you have claimed. This list is automatically provided for all eligible students UNLESS a student indicates they do not wish to claim exemption from the payment of Council Tax. If you do not intend to claim the exemption you should confirm this by ticking the 'opt out' box on the matriculation schedule. Those students whose semester address is elsewhere should contact their local authority for the appropriate form.
If you are a matriculated current student, you can print out a confirmation letter which certifies details about your status as a student at the University of Dundee through eVision. The Guidance for Students Certifying Letters (.pdf, 414 kB) guides you through the process.
