The Registry must be able to contact you directly, especially during matriculation, the examination process and in the run up to graduation. Any change of address should be immediately notified to the Registry.
You can update your home and contact address (unless you are in University accommodation) from eVision
It is advisable to inform the Registry separately even if you have already told your supervisor or division/school/College
If you wish to change your choice of module you may do so within the first 2 weeks of the academic session (some modules may exceptionally permit a later change;please check with your School). Before confirming any change, you must consult your Adviser of Studies. Once you have agreed the change, a Module Change Pro-Forma must be completed. A downloadable form is available on the Registry web pages. (www.somis.dundee.ac.uk/registry/)
If you wish to change degree programme the same procedure applies. It is obviously important that you have discussed this fully with your Adviser before going ahead. Both the losing and gaining School(s) should be made aware of your intentions. Change of degree programme may involve a Transfer of College. If this is the case you should still in the first instance contact your present School Secretary to take this forward.
Please note that failure to carry out the proper procedure might have implications for your individual credit accumulation .
The University hopes very much that your period of study in Dundee runs smoothly, but it can happen that for some reason things do not go according to plan and you are prevented from working as a result of medical, personal or other serious circumstances. Or it may be the case that you are not able, for the same kinds of reason, to work at a pace which will enable you to complete on time. Colleges are able to approve the award of extensions to a student's period of study or to recommend that a period of study be discounted from the maximum period permissible. If you are experiencing problems which may make it difficult for you to complete on time you should talk in the first instance to your supervisor or to the programme leader about the possible options. You should do this as soon as the difficulty arises. If your supervisor supports the award of a concession s/he or the school will make a case on your behalf to the College. The Registry will formally notify you if such a concession is approved.
Some students participate in an approved exchange programme such as Erasmus or the Transatlantic Scheme. In such cases a reduced tuition fee is still payable. You should ensure you apply to your local authority in the the normal way. Students who are self-financing are eligible to have their fees paid by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC). Further details are available from the Registry.
You may wish for a number of reasons, including personal, academic or financial to apply for a break in your studies and return the following semester or academic year.
In such circumstances, a student may apply to their School for a leave of absence. Once again before finally deciding on such an action, students should consider seeking advice from the School and/or Student Services, who may be able to provide some assistance.
If for whatever reason you decide you wish to withdraw from the University permanently you should notify your Adviser of Studies and the School immediately. If after consulting with the appropriate individuals you decide to permanently withdraw you must return your ID card to the Registry before leaving.
The University is concerned for the welfare of its students and if you do have particular difficulties or problems which are affecting your study and causing you to consider withdrawal from the University, there are a number of places where you could go for assistance or guidance. Details are provided in the Student Services section of this booklet.
