The University Senior Management has given its backing to the development of a centralised teaching timetable. This project has been established to implement a service which will successfully undertake the scheduling of and room allocation for all teaching activities.
Currently, the individual schools within the University of Dundee are responsible for developing and maintaining their own timetables. While this does provide a workable solution, it does not lead to the most effective use of the University teaching week or maximum utilisation of teaching rooms. In addition, a great deal of academic staff time is spent on the administration of the timetables with liaison with other Schools often required to ensure clash free timetables are produced. Overall, presently there is no complete single picture of the University's teaching and, therefore, no way to produce a standardised timetable which could maximise student choice and allow for the modelling of new programmes and modules.
