Introduction to the QAF

Mapping of the QAF to the QAA Code of Practice

The Code of practice for the Assurance of Quality and Standards in Higher Education (the Code of Practice) provides guidance on maintaining quality and standards for UK universities. It is probably the most important reference point for the University's Quality Assurance Framework (QAF).

The Code of Practice was originally prepared by QAA between 1998 and 2001. Revisions of individual sections began in 2004. The Code of Practice is now made up of 10 sections. Each section includes a set or precepts which institutions are expected to observe and which may be appraised during enhancement-led institutional review (ELIR). There are a total of 170 precepts.

The links below provide a mapping of University policy and practice to each of the precepts, using weblinks to relevant material. It should be noted that due to ongoing redevelopment of the University website, this online material may be presented in several design formats. Necessarily, the linked documents do not always provide direct evidence of specific actions in the spirit of a precept - this will often be present in programme handbooks, committee documentation, and, often, in individual staff and student experiences.

A second method of mapping can be found in the Overview of QA-Related Polices.
