I first attended the University of Dundee in 2001 as an undergraduate and later as a Masters student. I conducted my Masters on the attentional effects of dyslexia with Dr. Lynne Duncan in a project funded by Dyslexia Action Scotland. I have been working with Prof. Martin Fischer since 2004, initially as a research assistant and now as a PhD student. My thesis topic is to study the underlying neural resources humans utilise in order to read. It is supposed that the short timespan in which the human race has been reading is insufficient for a dedicated "reading system" to have evolved. Thus it is concluded that we must be using a system that was originally intended for another purpose. My intention is to explore this theory and the ramifications it has for human reading.
