Dr Neale Laker
Director of Policy, Governance & Legal Affairs
Dr Laker earned a BA in German and a PhD in Historical Germanic Linguistics from the University of Bristol, with periods abroad at the Universities of Marburg and Jena. While at Bristol, he spent two years as a Leverhulme Research Assistant on a collaboration with the University of Trier to edit a medieval German world chronicle. From 1996-99 he taught English and Cultural Studies at the University of Freiburg in southwest Germany.
Dr Laker moved to Scotland in 1999 and, after a painful but eye-opening summer in a call centre, took up the post of Postgraduate Administrator in the then Faculty of Education at the University of Edinburgh. He came to the University of Dundee as Deputy Director of Registry in 2001, in which post he was responsible for postgraduate affairs, examination diets and graduation ceremonies.
Originally from Tamworth in Staffordshire, Dr Laker is now settled in the East Neuk of Fife with his wife and young family.
