Alumni's Anne bids au revoir

Alumni Officer Anne Reynolds retired in December after a decade of service as the principal link person between the University and its growing band of alumni, now numbering some 27,000. She bids a heartfelt farewell.

I started work in the Alumni Office ten years ago, my remit was to further foster the link between the University and the graduate. It was terra incognita but, looking back, it seemed to be no time at all until there was a full going rapport with you.

Undoubtedly the most gratifying achievement for me was the launch of GC in 1995 and the almost instant positive feedback. It's been great to get your updates with your career and family news. It's been amazing to me that so many of you take time out of busy lives to keep in touch and contribute to GC and, for me, to receive news of your career paths and your diverse interests - which are not always connected with the course of study - has been fascinating.

Each Freshers' Fayre I've been there handing out wallplanners and there when you came off the stage at Caird Hall after the graduation ceremony. Graduation - the culmination of all those years of hard work and the celebrations with those friends you made, but sometimes, lost contact with. It's given me great satisfaction to help you re-establish those friendships and to see you enjoy your reunions with them.

I've been happy to see you coming each year to the Annual Meeting and the Discovery Lecture and I know that the further development of the 'town and gown' relationship with the Lord Provost's annual civic reception has been appreciated by you, as is your continuing interest in the city and how it has changed and developed over the years.

I have valued getting to know three new members of the Graduates' Council Business Committee each year and also with the elected graduate Assessors on Court.

Despite the hard work dealing with the various strands of alumni relations and the periods of chaotic activity, working in the Development/Alumni office has been challenging but happy. In particular I've thoroughly enjoyed working with Allen Mackenzie whose advice has been invaluable and on whose support and guidance I have relied.

I will certainly continue to keep in close touch and will eagerly await each new GC. Au revoir.
