A short animation created by Douglas for film company Hannaywood was recently screened at the Cannes film festival. Douglas, 21, from Newburgh, Fife, said, "Movement is a key element of animation and it is what interests me most. I have explored the movement of animals, specifically dogs, and the three and a half minute film I have created for the degree show is based on my study of the movements of my own Labrador on a pheasant shoot."

Over the past two years, Donna, 22, has focused her energies on exploring her personal reactions to specific environments, and communicating these reactions through animation. She has taken her main inspirations from animators such as Robert Breer, Stuart Hilton and Rachel Bevan Baker. She has also devoted a lot of time towards the soundtrack composition and recording for various films, including writing and recording ‘The Peace Song’ for Gili Dolev’s award winning animation ‘Promise Land’. Donna says, "Last year I was awarded 1000 pounds from The Cross Trust Vacation Award Scheme to carry out a research proposal which involved me traveling across Italy and documenting my journey through various media. So for the month of July 2002 I set out across Italy armed with my sketchbook, camera, journal, minidisk recorder and stereo mic and returned with a wealth of research and inspiration that would act as the ‘fuel’ for my final year studies in animation."

Influenced by illustrators Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac, Vickys inspiration comes from source drawing from life and a fertile imagination. She has spent a considerable amount of time experimenting with media, colour, texture and pattern and this is evident in all her image-making. Her final outcomes are mainly within publishing and book.
