Rumble in the Jungle

Jane Miller, lecturer in music at the faculty of education and social work, recently led the Rumble in the Jungle project which involved teachers and children from six nursery schools in the Angus area. She worked with the teachers to compose songs with an animal theme for each nursery class. Jane, who like many of the staff at the faculty of education and social work works closely with local schools, said, "The approach of using music to enhance aspects of literacy is a feature of some early learning initiatives. The use of rhythm and rhyme and topic-related vocabulary helps young children embarking on the early stages of reading."
