Ron and the Researchers cut CD

photo of Ron Lorimer

A group of crooners in the school of life sciences have just cut a CD and are selling the compilation of ten all-time classic easy listening tracks in the school.

Led by store technician Ron Lorimer, Ron and the Researchers comprise Professor Jeff Williams on guitar, Alex Schuttlekopf on bass guitar and Dr Magnus Alphey on keyboards.

Ron, famed for singing around the Wellcome Trust Building was given a gift of cash on his 60th birthday by colleagues to cut a CD of his favourite tunes. He didn't want to go it alone so set about recruiting volunteers to join him. Professor Jeff Williams, group leader in the Wellcome Trust Building: "Ron is a real institution in the place and he brightens everyone's day. You can always tell when Ron's around because you can hear him singing before you see him. He sings everything from ballads to opera classics and rock and it was great fun to help back him on the CD.

"The classic compilation includes the tracks "I only have eyes for you", "love is a many splendoured thing" and "fly me to the moon" with Ron on vocals.

Ron and the researchers CD is now on sale priced £5 in the Wellcome Trust Building. All proceeds will go to Maggie's cancer centre at Ninewells.
