
Students Artwork A research journey through Vienna, Venice, Florence and Rome - what more could anybody want? Thanks to a £5,000 grant from the Rootstein Hopkins Foundation fourth year drawing and painting student, Linda Short will be able to spend three months gathering materials and soaking up inspiration en route in preparation for an exhibition of new works on her return. Every year nearly 300 students get the opportunity to display their artwork at the Royal Scottish Academy's Edinburgh gallery on the Mound and every year the University of Dundee sees at least one of the coveted RSA awards being presented to one of its students - this year made no exception.For their works featuring the development of the earth through to the plumbings of the body and into the nitty gritty of 'Gestalt' style counselling therapy Valerie Scott (left), Emma Turnbull and Jane Sharkey (right), all final year students of the school of fine art, amassed between them an excess of £600 prize money. Additionally Emma was awarded the Scottish Sculpture Workshop Residency Award winning her an all expenses three week workshop at an internationally renowned specialised sculpture residency centre near Aberdeen.

A second student to win a trip to Europe is fourth year jewellery and metalwork student, Andy Sweet. Andy beat off rivals from across the UK in Dollond and Aitchison's National Student SpeX Competition winning a work experience trip to De Rigo in Italy this summer, £1000 and a further £1000 for his department. During his work experience trip Andy will be able to see his designs - soon available on the high street - being developed and manufactured.
