Three or four?

photo of Prospectus 2001 The undergraduate prospectus for student entry in the year 2001 is hot off the press profiling a top rated university for teaching quality with a tradition of excellence dating back to 1881.

Designed to take prospective students through the hows, wheres, whats and perhaps whys that surround a future in higher education, the prospectus acts a supportive tool to guide anyone through these sometimes harrowing decision-making processes.

Illustrating life on campus, student profiles and the city of Dundee, it gives details of each of the six faculties' individual courses also highlighting for the first time those three year honours degrees that are available at the University.

"The three year honours option is a new development to suit the changing needs and demands of students" commented director of student admissions and recruitment, Gordon Craig. "It is a bold response to a new and challenging marketplace. While there has always previously been the option for students with A-levels to go straight into the second year of a four year honours there has always been the perception that they were " late joiners" to a programme. Under new arrangements students admitted to the three year courses will have their own induction programme."

He also emphasised: "The four year honours degree remains a popular choice with most Scottish students and we are not about to see it go. I have no doubt that its place within the range of higher education options of the future remains assured as long as the students want it. However, the development of Higher Still will see more Scottish students opting for a three year honours degree and we do need to respond to that."
