Edinburgh Principal to lecture

"Two Paintings and a Religious Question" is the title of the lecture to be delivered by Edinburgh University Principal and Vice-Chancellor Sir Stewart Sutherland when he delivers the Margaret Harris Religious Lecture on Wednesday 3 May.

Sir Stewart joins a long list of distinguished speakers who have tackled many aspects of religious belief through these lectures, including most recently Sir Jonathon Porritt and Dr John Drane.

Sir Stewart will explore the work of El Greco and Picasso during his address which is free and open to the public. The lecture takes place in the Chaplaincy Centre at 5.15pm.

The series of lectures on religion was instituted in 1965 and named after Miss Margaret Harris (1815-1894) in 1974. Miss Harris was a notable benefactress of University College, Dundee whose estate endowed the first Chair of Physics in 1895 and the Chaplaincy Centre at the University in 1973.
