6 Scottish Women's History Network Day Workshop
Interrogations: Women's voices in historical sources Institute for Education and Lifelong Learning, Tower Building, 11am - 4pm.
This day workshop will focus on the issues of retrieving, interpreting, and listening to women's voices from the past. Speakers have been invited from local archives to talk about the resources which are available. Researchers who are currently engaged in a range of women's history projects will be talking about their work, and the methodological problems they have faced. The final session of the day will be looking at work by oral historians. The day will end with a group discussion open to all who attend. A one-day event examining issues of assessment in work with children who are neglected. The keynote speaker will be Professor Olive Stevenson from the University of Nottingham, with contributions from department of social work academic staff and agency practitioners currently engaged in joint work in this area. The event will be a joint venture between the University and the Tayside Area Child Protection Committee and has the support of Scotland's Association of Directors of Social Work (ADSW). The Fourth International EOS DB conference is a successor to the previous meetings which were held in Hawaii and Canberra; and is organised in association with NASA. This meeting will be concerned with Direct Broadcast of EO data in general with special emphasis on all aspects of the TERRA, which was successfully launched in December 1999, and AQUA programmes, both in the space and ground segments, including data processing. 28 Nutrition and Public Health in the Year 2000
Chaired by Professor Annie Anderson, centre for applied nutrition research, Dundee, the conference will address the 20th century problem of chronic, diet-related diseases. The conference aims to address current understanding of why and how to change nutritional status and includes presentations on public health nutrition, diet and dental decay, community food initiatives and the development of behaviour-change programmes.June 23 Nutrition and the Hospital Patient in the Year 2000 will be chaired by Professor Chris Pennington, Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, addressing a range of issues affecting nutritional status in patient care. These will include, the recognition of malnutrition and its significance in clinical outcomes, current developments in enteral and parenteral feeding and nutrition considerations in the surgical patient with cancer. Current evidence and guidelines as to the management of intestinal failure will also be reviewed.
October 6 Nutrition and the Gut in the Year 2000
Professor John Cummings, Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, Dundee will chair our third and final conference of the series. Addressed will be a review of diet in the role of coeliac disease, crohn's disease and other bowel disorders including diet in the prevention of colorectal cancer.
