Dr Mary Shrimpton, Information & Communication Services:
During Career Bridges I gained a lot of practical information about Higher Education - how it is managed; how funding and spending works; how effective changes can be implemented; and how strategy is devised. Throughout the course we worked in teams where we achieved our objectives by putting into practice the knowledge we gained. I returned to my workplace confident in being able to contribute more as an active team member, confident in my decisions and able to implement change effectively.

Lesley Hewitt, Safety Services:
I enjoyed meeting other people from within my own HEI as well as those from other Universities. Excellent networking opportunity!

Instructors were very good and encouraging, in particular Ginnie Willis! I gained a lot from Time Management and feel it is something which should be mandatory for everyone throughout the University and reviewed at least twice yearly.

I enjoyed the Belbin, Insights and Hay MSQ modules, learning about how you work, who you work best with and where in the team you fit! The induction day was very good as there are a few good sessions where you are placed in a group sorted by Belbin.

MANAGEMENT COURSES AT DUNDEE

Dundee University offer a range of modules in management designed to take you from first steps in understanding management through to more advanced applications in marketing, human resource management and strategy. If you expect to complete several modules then "Principles of Management" in Semester 1 is strongly recommended, before moving on the more specialised areas with "Principles of Marketing", "Human Resource Management" or "Strategic Management". The set of modules used in this way will provide you with an excellent grounding in management theory and practice. Further modules in "Operations Management" and "Finance for non-financial Managers" are being developed for 2009-2010.

Alternatively each module is entirely viable as a stand-alone entity. Perhaps to discover whether the ideas of management appeals to you - "Principles of Management" or to provide a solid basis for further professional development through the more specialised modules.

The assessments are optional in all the modules so that you can decide as you go along whether to do them or not. Success in the assessments for each module earns 20 SCOTCAT points. Credit points can count towards Certificate, Diploma and MA degree. Further information on this route can be had from Lily Forrester (l.s.forrester@dundee.ac.uk)

These courses attract a wide variety of managers from across Tayside.

Supporting funding is normally available for University staff from Management and Professional Development. Contact Terry Vickers (t.g.vickers@dundee.ac.uk) for further detail or individual discussion.
