We will encourage you to think critically about the various ways in which historians have researched and analysed the development of key themes in the history of the nation. From the medieval period to the present day, the topics chart the creation of a nation.

You will develop your research skills and gain a critical understanding of the major debates in Scottish history and historiography. As part of this course, you will research and write a dissertation on a topic of your own interest.

You will receive a lot of online content right from the start and learn from subject experts from both within and out-with the History department at the University of Dundee. You will also benefit from our flexible teaching model that allows students to take semesters off.

“The Distance Learning MLitt offers a fantastic opportunity to step back into Scottish history from wherever you are in the world. With a wide range of fascinating modules, a flexible approach to learning and excellent support from tutors, this is the perfect way to study Scottish history in real depth.”
