Law (Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy)

The Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) is a unique and globally recognised academic institution for graduate teaching and research in natural resources, energy and the environment which attracts interdisciplinary students worldwide. It provides the best in advanced education in the legal, economic, technical and policy backgrounds of the energy and resources industries, preparing its graduates to meet the challenges faced in the new global economy. In recent years, support for research has come from the European Commission TACIS and SYNERGY programmes, major companies including Rio Tinto plc and BP and research bodies such as the Nuffield Foundation.

CEPMLP was the recipient of the Queen's Award for Enterprise in the International Trade Category, 2004

RAE 2008

The CEPMLP achieved a high research rating in the 2008 RAE as part of the submission from the University's Law Unit of Assessment. The Unit finished among the top four in Scotland (out of 11), and among the top 19 out of 67 in the UK. All of its research was classified as being of an international standard.

International Business

Mining

Oil and Gas

The removal and disposal of offshore installations and structures in Asia and the Pacific; gas regulation; Kyoto Protocol (Peter Cameron); pipeline regulation in the UK (Paul Stevens); legal and fiscal regimes for petroleum (Philip Andrews-Speed).

Masters and PhD Research Programmes are available in all specialist areas. The research culture at CEPMLP is strong, with over 40 PhD students currently participating in fortnightly research seminars.
