Political Parties in Europe, PhD Studentship

Centre for the Study of European Political Parties

Politics and International Relations at the University of Dundee will launch a new Centre for the Study of European Political Parties in September 2011.

To inaugurate the new Centre we are offering a PhD studentship on a topic related to political parties in Europe, research projects on the following topics are of particular interest:

• The Europeanisation of political parties and Euroscepticism, Euro-parties and transnational parties;
• The regulation of political parties, especially proscription of political parties; democratisation and party politics; extremist and anti-system parties;
• Evolution of parties of the left;
• Political parties and the politics of coalition formation; and
• Parties in federal and multilevel systems.

Award Details

The studentship will be available from September 2011.  The award is £3,732 which covers the fee for a Home/EU student (or £3,732 towards fees for an international student) per year (maximum three years), plus a £2,000 teaching bursary in exchange for 50 hours seminar tutorial support per year.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements are:

• an upper second class honours degree in a relevant area, or
• a relevant masters degree
• English language qualification equivalent to IELTS 6.5 (with no component below 5.5), if your first language is not English
