Aims of the Programme

To provide an advanced understanding of how population geography relates to a range of contemporary social, economic and political issues in the developed and developing worlds
To develop students' research skills in terms of the formulation of research questions, the collection and analysis of data, and the presentation and dissemination of research findings.

Programme Content

The programme comprises a series of inter-related modules:

Theory and Concepts in Population Geography introduces students to key analytical frameworks
Applied Population Geography and Health Studies examines a series of more substantive questions relating to demographic change and health issues
Three research training modules cover Research Skills in Human Geography, Statistical Methods and Qualitative Methods.

Students also undertake a mini-project for which they are provided with a range of data sets, and a dissertation of 15,000 words based on original research.

Methods of Assessment

The programme uses a range of assessment methods, including coursework, examinations and presentations.

Entry Requirements

A degree in a social science discipline or relevant professional experience.

English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.5 (or equivalent), if your first language is not English. Please check our Language Requirements page for details of equivalent grades from other test providers, and information about the University of Dundee English Language courses.
