- Reflective practice and evaluative self reflection.
- Beliefs, attitudes and behaviours, review of verbal and non verbal communication.
- Explore the major models of musculoskeletal therapy.
- The physiology of pain, chronic pain management.
- Anatomy and applied mechanics.
- Models of clinical reasoning.
- Critical analysis of the literature related to musculoskeletal therapy.
- Analysis of patient assessment, interpretation of findings through clinical reasoning and reflective practice.
- Clinical decision making and appraisal of options for management of patients.
- Clinical contraindications.
- Principles of clinical governance, ethical issues, multidisciplinary team working.
Aims of the Module
- To enable students the opportunity to critically analyse the concepts of advanced practice and the key components involved in the management of patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
- To provide students with the understanding and skills to define and demonstrate expertise in a patient environment, through utilizing advanced interpersonal communication from clinical reasoning to clinical diagnosis.

This module is delivered online through MyDundee (the University virtual learning environment). All materials are provided through this medium. E-learning offers students easy access to web resources and documents needed for their studies, as well as facilitating discussions and the exchange of ideas with fellow students and tutors. Anyone with access to the internet and basic IT skills will be able to use MyDundee.
There are 2 parts to the module assessment:
- 2,500 word evaluative patient essay
- 2,00 word video reflective analysis
Entry Requirements
Prior to undertaking this module students must be educated to degree level or equivalent. They must also have access to a computer and internet (preferably broadband) and have basic IT skills.
English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.0 (or equivalent), if your first language is not English.
