Aims of the Programme

Programme Content

Lecture Modules

The course will contain five modules, which are common for both the Diploma and the MSc courses, which will be completed in the first two terms. Click on the module name for more information.

  1. Biolectronics
  2. Electronic Product Design
  3. Engineering in the Sustainable Environment
  4. Microelectronic Fabrication
  5. Integrated Laboratory: Design Practice

Project

The project can be undertaken in industry or be industrially-related and completed in the University. The project will be 10 weeks for the Diploma or 20 weeks for the MSc. More information can be found on the modules page.

Methods of Assessment

The assessment for both the Diploma and the MSc will be through a series of assignments, laboratory reports, formal examinations and a thesis.

Sources of Funding

The Diploma programme is funded in full for Scottish residents by the Scottish Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS). The maintenance allowance is subject to the normal means testing and parental contribution. EC students studying for the Diploma are eligible to obtain a grant from SAAS to pay in full the tuition. Students from other areas of the UK must contact their LEAs.

Entry Requirements

The broad objective of the programme has confirmed that applicants from a wide background can succeed. An honours degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Applied Physics or Computer Science is the basic academic requirement, but consideration will be given to technical qualifications supported by relevant industrial experience.

English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.0 (or equivalent), if your first language is not English. Please check our Language Requirements page for details of equivalent grades from other test providers, and information about the University of Dundee English Language courses.
