The programme is a full-time taught postgraduate degree course leading to the degree of MSc in Biomedical Engineering. It has an international dimension, providing an important opportunity for postgraduate engineers to study the principles and state-of-the-art technologies in biomedical engineering with a particular emphasis on applications in advanced instrumentation for medicine and surgery. It will also encourage students to develop research skills by taking part in research projects during their training.
This taught MSc course is initially aimed at students in Chinese partner Universities, including Tianjin University, who will complete the first part of the course at their own institution before coming to Dundee to complete their studies. The January start date is for these students only. (Please note that this course is full for January 2010.)
This course is also open to students from elsewhere; see also the MSc Design for Medical Technologies page.

The course is divided into two parts: Part I in Chinese partner Universities or equivalent modules in Dundee, and Part II in the UK.
Part I (60 Credits) has three core modules, or other agreeable modules (3 months):
Or equivalent modules (60 credits) provided in Dundee:
Part II (120 Credits) has one taught module and a research project module. It starts at the beginning of the University of Dundee's Semester 2, which is in mid-January:
The time spent in Dundee will also give students a valuable educational and cultural experience.
The course is assessed by coursework and examination, plus dissertation.
The normal entry requirement is a four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in a discipline that provides a suitable basis for the course, e.g. biomedical, electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering, physics or mathematics. Students with other academic backgrounds or exceptional work experience in the chosen field, should contact the Course Director to make further enquiries and to discuss their individual cases.
For admission to Part II of the course, students must have passed Part I of the course and reached a standard in the English language that is acceptable to the University of Dundee. Please check our Language Requirements page for full details, including University of Dundee English Language courses.
University of Dundee Overseas Student Scholarships are available for students on this course. For more information, visit the Scholarships website.
