Overview

MSc Applied Professional Studies (Child Care and Protection) is one of in our suite of MSc Applied Professional Studies programmes. This range of innovative, inter-professional programmes that are dedicated to developing and integrating contemporary practice, helping practitioners to engage creatively with the concerns of their profession in a research-informed way.

The named award MSc Applied Professional Studies (Child Care and Protection) aims to support students to develop advanced levels of practice, a critical understanding of the area of child care and protection, the application of a range of techniques and practices to make informed decisions in relation to complex issues and to become more critical, analytical and articulate in relation to policy, research and practice issues.

Students can choose to leave with a PGCertificate in Child Care & Protection, or a PGDiploma or a Master of Science degree in Applied Professional Studies (Child Care and Protection).

Aims of the Programme

To enable practitioners from a broad range of professions to engage creatively with the concerns of organisations in an informed and research-minded way.

Programme Content

The programme is structured in a modular format of 6 modules and can be completed within 3 years. Practitioner research is a central theme of the programme and threaded throughout all module areas are inquiry-based learning activities building towards a Research Project or Dissertation.

The key components of this programme are:

additionally supported by e-learning and workshops when required.

You can achieve a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or a Masters in a Named Award or General Award (see below for further details).

Specific APL and APEL arrangements are available which give entry to both the diploma and dissertation level, eg, Postgraduate TQ(FE).

Methods of Delivery

This flexible programme has been has been developed to enable the participant to undertake 'mixed module' delivery on a part-time basis. The modules may be offered by face to face delivery, distance learning and work-based learning on a two intake basis per year.

Entry Requirements

For general admission to the programme you should normally have obtained an honours degree or other qualification recognised by us as equivalent. In addition to meeting the required entrance qualification criteria, your admission to the programme is subject to you providing evidence that you have a minimum period of two years experience working in an appropriate practice setting. Depending on the pathway chosen there can be further specific entry requirements to meet.

English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.0 (or equivalent), if your first language is not English. Please check our Language Requirements page for details of equivalent grades from other test providers, and information about the University of Dundee English Language courses.
