Overview

The MSc Advanced Practice award is designed to be flexible and innovative in meeting the needs of students and service providers. This award is suitable for students wanting the opportunity to develop a portfolio of modules tailored to their individual needs and develop advanced knowledge and skills relevant to their area of professional practice.

Students negotiate their choice of option modules in discussion with the Postgraduate Programme Manager and these can be linked to particular career aspirations, areas of clinical expertise or professional interest.

Most of the modules are offered via e-learning mode, allowing the student to study at a distance.

Key features of the pathway include:

Programme Content

A wide range of option modules are available, ranging across topics germane to all professionals whatever their area of practice, such as clinical governance, leadership, risk and accountability to more specific areas of clinical speciality such as cancer care, palliative care and community health nursing.

The complete portfolio of modules offered within the framework, together with information about when they are delivered, can be found in the delivery plan. Alternatively, students may be able to undertake a module offered by another college within the university.

Previous study at Masters level can also be considered for APEL purposes.

Dissertation

The dissertation may be a piece of research, a practice development project, or a systematic review. The choice of dissertation is negotiated between the student, postgraduate academic facilitator and the dissertation co-ordinator.
