The MSc Advanced Practice award is designed to be flexible and innovative in meeting the needs of students and service providers. This award is suitable for students wanting the opportunity to develop a portfolio of modules tailored to their individual needs and develop advanced knowledge and skills relevant to their area of professional practice.
Students negotiate their choice of option modules in discussion with the Postgraduate Programme Manager and these can be linked to particular career aspirations, areas of clinical expertise or professional interest.
Most of the modules are offered via e-learning mode, allowing the student to study at a distance.
Key features of the pathway include:
A wide range of option modules are available, ranging across topics germane to all professionals whatever their area of practice, such as clinical governance, leadership, risk and accountability to more specific areas of clinical speciality such as cancer care, palliative care and community health nursing.
The complete portfolio of modules offered within the framework, together with information about when they are delivered, can be found in the delivery plan. Alternatively, students may be able to undertake a module offered by another college within the university.
Previous study at Masters level can also be considered for APEL purposes.
The dissertation may be a piece of research, a practice development project, or a systematic review. The choice of dissertation is negotiated between the student, postgraduate academic facilitator and the dissertation co-ordinator.

Applicants are normally required to have a relevant first degree. Previous experience may also be considered upon application, for more information, visit the School of Nursing & Midwifery APEL webpage.
You must be practicing within a specific role that will enable them to meet the required learning outcomes and competencies of the above award core modules.
You will require access to a personal computer with good connection to the internet (broadband recommended).
In addition, you must gain support from their employing organization, including agreement to release the practitioners from their workplace for sufficient time to achieve these learning outcomes and competencies.
English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.5, with minimum of 6.0 in any component (or equivalent), if your first language is not English. Please check our Language Requirements page for details of equivalent grades from other test providers, and information about the University of Dundee English Language courses.
The School of Nursing & Midwifery is not currently offering any school scholarships.
