The University of Dundee offers an MSc Advanced Practice (Infection: Diseases, Prevention and Control) and/or Specialist Practitioner Qualification (SPQ) with a Postgraduate Certificate. It is delivered by e-learning and is available to multidisciplinary healthcare workers. The programme can be completed in a minimum of 15 months or maximum of 5 years part-time.
Embedding high standards of Infection Prevention and Control into clinical practice to enhance the safety and quality of patient care is fundamental in addressing healthcare associated infection. This part time programme recognises the challenges healthcare associated infection presents and provides professionals with the opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and expertise in order to meet the requirements of healthcare organisations and health delivery.

Students following the NMC recordable SPQ pathway will undertake the professional modules Fundamental Skills for Practitioners of Infection Prevention and Control and Advancing Skills in the Practice and Leadership of Infection Prevention and Control, with, as their final module Demonstrating Competency at Advanced Levels of Practice.

Students undertaking the named award MSc Advanced Practice (Infection: Diseases, Prevention and Control) must undertake either Advancing Skills in the Practice and Leadership of Infection Prevention and Control, or Measures for Quality Improvement in Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) Practice, and a framework core module -Critical Appraisal Skills for Practitioners or Methods of Inquiry in Health and Social Care.
A further 60 points, of which 30 must be in Infection Prevention and Control, may be chosen from modules available through the School's MSc Advanced Practice portfolio, or the *NHS Education Scotland framework for practitioners of infection prevention and control, delivered between a consortium comprising the University of Dundee, UHI Millenium Institute and Glasgow Caledonian University.
Students completing the named award finish by undertaking a dissertation, which must focus on Infection Prevention and Control.

Applicants to the postgraduate diploma or MSc are normally required to have a relevant first degree, plus must have experience of working in a role related to Infection, Diseases, Prevention and Control . For the SPQ programme, applicants require a minimum of a Diploma in Higher Education in Nursing or equivalent, to be registered with the NMC, and must also have developed knowledge, skills and competence beyond intial registration, including in a role related to Infection, Diseases, Prevention and Control. You also require a work based mentor and manager's support is required for the SPQ programme.
All students require access to a personal computer with good connection to the internet (broadband recommended).
English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.5, with minimum of 6.0 in any component (or equivalent), if your first language is not English.
