| It is with great pleasure that I invite you to join the Graduate School of Natural Resources Law, Policy and Management and become part of our thriving multi-cultural international community of graduate students, researchers and academics. | |
MissionOur mission is: to promote excellence in postgraduate research, teaching and training in the field of natural resources law and policy and to enhance the learner’s experience by creating the best environment for academic and professional development; to influence policy through research and education; to build a new generation of local leaders with the unique skills to tackle the complex challenges that face us all. OverviewOur approach to natural resource regulation (law and policy) is to locate it within the broad conceptual framework provided by the notion of sustainable development. In this way, the School seeks to examine the challenges between the use of natural resources for macro-economic development on the one hand, and the urgent demands of climate change and security in energy and water supply and demand on the other. We recognise that collaboration and cooperation is essential both in meeting the policy challenges and in carrying out research into the problems at international, regional and national levels. We are particularly interested in the challenges for law, policy and resource management that are presented by new technologies such as those associated with renewable energy, This is an outward-looking, forward-thinking and problem-solving approach which informs our teaching as much as our research. Students interested in natural resources law, policy and management will find the University of Dundee, Graduate School of Natural Resources Law, Policy and Management a stimulating and welcoming environment committed to building and nurturing a community of discourse where students are encouraged: to formulate appropriate strategies for achieving workable solutions to real-world problems; to discuss, debate and critique their recommendations; to recognise and resolve ethical dilemmas; to be involved in persuasive oral communication through in-class simulations on settling disputes through mediation and multi-party negotiation; to be proactive in providing leadership to address some of the world’s most challenging issues. Graduates from the School go on to pursue a variety of distinguished careers in the international Energy and Natural Resources sector. Our alumni currently hold important positions as executive leaders, expert advisers and international mediation advocates at all levels of government, international organisations, corporations and consultancy firms of all sizes, law firms of the highest standing, and national environmental agencies.
