Study Abroad

Exchange Programme

Do you want to study abroad?

All Dundee Politics and International Relations students have the opportunity to take up student exchange places with our exchange partners in Denmark and Poland during their second year of study. Take a look at what our partners say about themselves.

Both of our exchange partners offer modules in the medium of English, so you don't need to worry about your language skills. But you will have the opportunity to learn Polish and Danish as well!

You can also apply for exchange places in the USA, Canada, Australia and Hong Kong. For more information see the University’s studying abroad pages.

What's it like?

Study abroad can be exciting. You can meet new people, select from a wider range of modules, live life in a different culture and gain valuable insights and experiences that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Dundee Politics students Ellen Wichmann, Alasdair Stewart and Craig Puncher studied in Denmark and Poland.  You can read what they each had to say about the time they spent abroad:

Good for you... and for your CV

Evidence from the European Commission and comments from other Dundee exchange students over the years indicate that skills and attitudes developed through study abroad are likely to be valuable in professional life and attractive to potential employers.

Study abroad can be daunting for some, so we have chosen our exchange partners very carefully. A departmental representative has visited the host universities in both Denmark and Poland and we have got to know some of their staff personally. We do all we can to ensure you get help finding accommodation, meeting other students, choosing subjects and negotiating the differences of a new educational environment.

The practicalities

EU nationals should still be able to receive any grants or loans they would usually get at home and the EU offers most exchange students some financial help to cover additional costs.

How to apply

Each year our exchange coordinator, Dr Martin Elvins, holds a meeting for interested students. The time and date of the meeting will be announced at First year lectures and on My Dundee.  If you have any questions about exchanges please feel free to contact Dr Elvins.

Further information

You can get further information about the European Union’s ERASMUS student exchange programme and other international exchanges on the University’s studying abroad pages.
