Module Content
The module is arranged in two sections:
- UK politics
- UK public policy making
Module Aims
The aims of this module are:
- To provide an introduction to the study of politics
- To assess the power of governmental and non governmental institutions in the UK and their impact on public policy making
- To offer an introduction to public policy making in the UK
Intended Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
- Knowledge of political institutions and processes
- Knowledge of why public policy making is potentially so controversial
- An understanding of the rationale behind constitutional change in the UK
Skills
- The ability to make use of a wide range of cognitive, practical and key skills including transferable skills
- The ability to engage with and critically evaluate different explanations and to offer an informed opinion on a particular topic
Teaching
There will be 20 one-hour lectures (two per week), and ten one-hour tutorials (one per week).
Assessment
The assessed components for this module are:
- seminar exercise (20% of total mark)
- one essay (40% of total mark)
- seen examination (40% of total mark)
