Dr Sarah Leonard is Lecturer in Politics. Prior to joining the University of Dundee in October 2012, she was Lecturer in International Security at the University of Salford and Marie Curie Research Fellow at the Centre for European Studies of Sciences Po, Paris (France). She received her PhD in International Politics from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. In 2010, she was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI, Spain). Together with Dr Christian Kaunert, she was Editor of the Journal of Contemporary European Research, which is an open-access peer-reviewed journal owned by the University Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES), in 2009-2012.

Research
Sarah Leonard’s research interests lie at the intersection between Security Studies and European Studies. She is particularly interested in the development of the European Union internal security policies, especially those relating to asylum, migration and borders, as well as counter-terrorism. She has also written on securitization theory.

Sarah Leonard has supervised several PhD students on various aspects of European integration and European Union security policies, including counter-terrorism, policing and foreign policy. She welcomes enquiries from prospective PhD students interested in working on European integration; European Union policies; international security; counter-terrorism; borders, refugees and migration; and humanitarian intervention.
