PhD Degree

Introduction

A full-time PhD degree lasts three years (part-time, five years) and involves detailed study of a topic leading to thesis of 80-100,000 words. During this time you will benefit from a full training package offered by the Department, facilities in the Faculty Postgraduate Centre and teaching opportunities, where appropriate, in the Department.

Entry Criteria

We welcome applications from anyone with an upper second or first class degree in Politics, International Relations or a cognate subject.

Most students will be expected to have completed a Master's programme with an element of research training.

Areas of Departmental expertise

The Department has a wide range of expertise that covers a broad spectrum of the discipline, with particular strengths in international politics (a full list of potential fields is shown below).
