Second Edition of The History of Islamic Political Thought Published
Professor Emeritus, Anthony Black, has published the second edition of his book The History of Islamic Political Thought with Edinburgh University Press.
The book describes and analyses the various strands of Islamic political thought, including jurisprudence, philosophy and statecraft, from the early Caliphate to today. In the medieval period, it discusses the open-minded Ibn Rushd (Averroes), the quasi-fundamentalist Ibn Taymiyya and the sociologist Ibn Khladun, who emerges as one of the most original political thinkers of all time.
This second edition offers a new interpretation of recent Muslim political writings, both modernist and Islamist.
