A recent study conducted by Bill examined student feedback and was sponsored by the Centre for Education in the Built Environment (CEBE). Bill collaborated recently with colleagues on 3 recent research projects. He co-led a Special Interest Group with Deborah Peel funded by the Centre for Education in the Built Environment to examine educational research in Planning. He undertook a joint evaluation of a mental health project, Abbeytext with Greg Lloyd and Deborah Peel funded by the Scottish Association of Mental Health. The Perth & Kinross woodfuel study funded by SCARF was undertaken jointly with Barbara Illsley and Rory O'Riordan (Architecture).

His current research links to his PhD topic examining the interface between term-employment and full-time-study. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences has provided a research grant for Bill and two colleagues, Barbara Illsley and Kirsty Miller (Careers Service) to instigate and examine the introduction of Personal Development Plans within the School leading to a wider roll-out throughout the University.
