Research

The University of Dundee is a research-driven institution, with much of its research of world-renown. Town and Regional Planning at Dundee is in the fortunate position of being able to combine this academic philosophy with the highest-rated independent teaching quality assessment of any Scottish planning programme. Research is an important part of our work, informing all that we do. It ensures that our under- and post-graduate teaching programmes are based on the latest research findings. It strengthens the links between our accredited planning programmes and professional practice. It enables our staff and graduate researchers to participate in the academic and policy discourses that inform planning theory, policy and practice.

At all levels of governance, planning issues have emerged at the forefront of public concerns and our research reflects these issues, ranging from exploring best practice in the conservation of historic buildings and the promotion of sustainable community planning, to evaluating new environmental instruments focused on addressing spatial planning and global warming, such as strategic environmental assessment and sustainable development.
