1964-2004 Birthday Messages

Hi, its me, Andrew - got your email re the reunion. Won't be able to come as I am now living on the Indian Ocean!!
I quit the job/ rat race, let out the flat in Edinburgh and now in Kenya, well the island of Lamu off the Kenyan coast.
Over recent years I have been out here a few times. Well I have now moved here! I have bought 3.5 acres of beach and am here to build me a hoose! Staying with friends who run a small wilderness resort - have a look at www.kizingo.com I am helping them out between now and June next year. After that who knows - I have a 2 year visa for Kenya so will do something else somewhere else then. The plan is there is no plan. Weather here wonderful, seas clear and good visibility for snorkelling. As yet have not found my friendly dolphins who I swam with when last here. They are out there somewhere! Just back in fact from 5 hours of fishing on my new boat. My car replacement! A wonderfully smart speedboat which is rather fast and currently the talk of the island. Such a poser!
Work on my house here has already started - I have lots of fresh water in my new well (with tiny fish in it!) and have pegged out the various buildings which I am now planning to have - kitchen/ laundry/ store, the main residence and the staff quarters. Soon whip them into shape!
Off to have a G&T in a hammock and read my book.
Keep in touch
Love to all, Ann, Jean etc etc

Please pass on my thanks to Greg and his staff for organising the 40th anniversary reception held on Monday evening. It was great to meet up with many people from the past, and I now look forward to the 50th!
Here is a pic taken on Monday and for comparison another from college days - not much has changed!

Cheers

I would like to congratulate the planning school on its anniversary.
I recently began a job as a Planning Officer at Chester City Council, which I have been enjoying so far.
Other than work I have settled into Chester very well and will be moving into a new flat in a few weeks time with two other graduates.
I would like to thank the planning school for all of its help and support over the last four years and hope that you will enjoy Monday and continue to keep in touch.
Regards

I graduated in 1986! I pass Dundee from time to time, and even based in St Albans I have been involved in a number of developments/sites in the area (Kingsway West Retail, a couple of Class 6 uses up on Faraday Road, Dryburgh Industrial Estate, and have other work ongoing in Dunfermline, Cupar and Aberdeen at the current time).

Thanks for the invite, unfortunately I can't make it as things are a little busy here in Australia at the moment. As much as I'd love to attend, I think the distance factor is a little prohibitive! I hope the celebrations go off ok.

All's well here, it hardly seems like almost two years ago that I called in to visit you both on my last visit home. The family are all well and we've had a big year so far with school, sport etc. My oldest son Angus, who is nearly seven, has followed in his fathers footsteps and started playing rugby! I've attached a photo of his Under 8 rugby side that I coached. The shot was taken at WIN Stadium in Wollongong before the boys played at half time in the NSW Country v Scotland game earlier this year. It was a big thrill for the boys (and me!).
Anyway, all the best.

Well, life down in the capital is certainly interesting! I've met all sorts of types and have even been to the Old Bailey to witness Enforcement at it's most legal conclusion. The work I'm doing is really interesting and without wanting to resort to clichés, no day is ever the same. Although we're specialising in short letting, it can be quite seasonal so we're starting to get more varied cases.
It's still quite strange to be working in such a diverse borough, north to south it can be walked in about 90 minutes but inspite of this, it's such a rich tapestry of different social, ethnic and economic groups and it's only when one is submerged in it that you can really appreciate the extent of this diversity.
My boss down here is on the Planning Summer School Committee this year and met up with Deborah last week, looks like I'm never far from the watchful eyes of Dundee!! Speaking of Dundee, I here that birthday celebrations are in order for the planning school in November. The big question is, now the school is officially middle-aged, when is it going to buy a motorbike and some leather trousers?!
Anyway, I suppose I should be off, the world of enforcement waits for no man! All the best to everyone at the school.

I graduated in 1981 when Bill Edgar's head was full of thick black hair, as was his moustache! From the rogues gallery of photos, it looks like Ralph Skea's had an easier life over the last 25 years.
After graduating I joined NatWest Bank as a graduate trainee in 1981....go where the money is and some may come to you.........or so I thought. l was not keen or cut out for life as a town planner, as Bill & Ralph will confirm, but instead used the BSc degree as a means of getting into a large PLC, after enjoying a few years as a student.
After many years working in Manchester, Edinburgh, London & New York, I now live in Perth and now work as Head of Commercial Banking for LloydsTSB Scotland. So you can tell any student who might be disillusioned by the thought of life as a town planner, (as I was) that the degree can lead to many different and great things..it just takes some self-belief and a lot of hard work..and a modicum of luck.
I'll try and pop along on 8 November if I can stay away from Edinburgh for a day.
Best regards
Mike Mullins
