Entry Requirements
Taught Postgraduate Courses (MLitt in Philosophy and Literature and MLitt in Continental Philosophy)
- Entry Requirement: Normally a 1st class or 2:1 Honours degree in Philosophy or a related discipline. Applicants with alternative qualifications and/or relevant experience may also be considered.
- Duration of Study: These courses can be taken on a full or part time basis. Full time students normally complete the course in one year, part time students normally complete in two years.
Postgraduate Degrees by Research (MPhil and PhD)
The Philosophy Programme offers supervision for research leading to a PhD or an MPhil by research. Joint supervision can also be arranged with other Schools and Colleges, including Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.
- Entry Requirement: Normally a 1st class or 2:1 Honours degree in Philosophy or a related discipline. A taught MPhil or Masters degree is preferred. Applicants with alternative qualifications and/or relevant experience may also be considered, especially in the case of students wishing to pursue interdisciplinary work in philosophy and art with Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.
- Duration of Study
- PhD: Students can study for a PhD on a full or part time basis. The standard completion time for full time students is three years; for part time students, it is five years. In both cases, one further writing-up year is normally available.
- MPhil by research: Students can study for an MPhil by research on a full or part time basis. The standard completion time for full time students is two years; for part time students, it is four years. In both cases, one further writing-up year is normally available.
