Dean Margaret C Smith

I am delighted to welcome you to the School of Nursing and Midwifery, at the University of Dundee. Our aim is to develop an international reputation as a centre of excellence for all undergraduate and postgraduate education so that our graduates will then be equipped with the knowledge and skills to promote improvement in health outcomes. We are also committed to achieving international excellence in research and, in particular, in the fields of long term conditions and e-health.

Additionally, we have a focused programme in the area of musculoskeletal physiotherapy and diagnostic imaging. The School is part of the College of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing and this has created many opportunities for shared learning across the health and social care professions.

The School is recognised as one of the top Schools in Scotland in relation to its research portfolio, with over 85% of research being recognised internationally. The portfolio is focused in the areas of long term conditions and e-health and is being undertaken in collaboration with clinical colleagues, both nationally and internationally.

Our academic staff is committed to developing excellence in all aspects of education and research and they are at the forefront of modern student-centred teaching methods.

The collaboration with the NHS is an area of excellence and one that we are committed to developing even further. This sees increasing numbers of staff moving across both sectors in supporting our clinical academic collaboration.

The School has an excellent international profile and reputation which has grown significantly over the years as a result of the distance learning education that is provided to our students across the world. This allows us to deliver programmes in different settings as well as offering students the opportunity to study in Dundee.
