Neuro-Trauma Service
Both head and spinal trauma are managed at the centre. Following the acute management patients are transferred to the neuro-rehabilitation services. Invasive monitoring and ventilation is provided for these patients within the department.
Cerebrovascular microsurgical Service
The centre manages 50-70 patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms a year. The department also has special interest Arteriovenous malformations.
Neuro-Oncological Service
A wide range of brain and spinal tumours are treated in the centre. Pituitary tumours, acoustic neuromas & basal meningiomas by Prof Eljamel. In addition to general neuro-oncological techniques Prof Eljamel developed the technique of fluorescence image guided surgical resection and intracavity repetitive PDT. Ninewells Hospital is recognised centre for training and certification in fluorescence guided resection of gliomas, if you are interested in attending one of these training courses please contact us.
Spinal Surgery Centre
All the neurosurgeons treat a wide variety of spinal disorders including cervical & lumbar degenerative disorders. The department has special interest in treating spinal disc disease by minimally invasive surgery.
Functional Neurosurgery
The department is equipped with BRW, CRW & GTC and the ZD frames, a neuronavigation system, Stereoplan & Image fusion software , STP and Zeiss microscope navigator . Pallidotomy, Thalamic, Gpi and STN stimulation for tremor, PD and dystonia and surgery for mental disorders are provided by Prof Eljamel in collaboration with a team of professionals, The department is the National Centre for Neurosurgery for mental disorders.
Skull Base Surgery Centre
This is a specialist service provided by Prof Eljamel & Mr Hussain from Otolaryngology. Image guidance and neuro-monitoring are used in most of the procedures.
Pain Management
This is a supra-regional service provided by the consultant neurosurgeons and the pain clinic. The program has been running for several years a vast experience in spinal cord stimulation.
