Welcome to Neurosurgery at Dundee

Welcome to the website of the Neurosurgery Department at the University of Dundee. My colleagues and I take great pride in presenting you with an overview of Neurosurgery at Dundee. You will see that our department is steeped in a rich tradition of excellence in service, teaching, training and research. Our contribution to neurosurgery goes back a long way, in 1966 Professor Norman Dott officially opened the department. We have been in the forefront of neurosurgery since 1966 thanks to the unprecedented support of our local community that we serve.

Our mandate is to provide the highest quality of neurosurgical care, excellence in teaching, training and research. In my view neurosurgery is unique branch of surgery that fuses science with art and technology. Hence we have been using ultrasonic dissection, CT scanning and microscopy since 1970's, Stereotactic, Deep brain stimulation and spinal cord stimulation since 1980s, image guided technology since 1990s, neuro-endoscopy since 2000, intraoperative radiosurgery, photodynamic therapy, fluorescence guided resection and neurosurgical robotics from 2001.

We are proud to have played our part in the teaching of hundreds of doctors, graduates of the University of Dundee, and many neurosurgeons practicing around the world. Our mission is to foster an environment, and attitude which provides excellence in patient care, teaching, training, and research. As you read through these pages, I hope that you will find the information you seek and you come and visit this website again.
