    The University music groups all resume rehearsals the week beginning January 16th. A very busy term is in prospect with OPSOC putting on Spring Awakening, the music society preparing a concert of music by Holst, Rossini and Grieg and at the beginning of April, the Bach Consort will be performing Bach's St John Passion.

    The Music Society will be giving their annual Christmas Concert on Saturday 3rd December at 4pm in Dundee Parish Church (St Mary's). The University Choirs, Orchestra and Big Band will all be performing - music will include Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Christmas Carols as well as popular favourites such as Winter Wonderland and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Tickets availble on the door.

    The Music Society will be giving their first concert of the year on Wednesday November 2nd. Titled "Nautical but nice", works to be performed include Sullivan's "Overture to the Pirates of Penzance", music from "Pirates of the Caribbean" and Stanford's "Songs of the Fleet". The concert starts at 7pm in St Mary Magdalene's, Dudhope Crescent Road and tickets are £7, £6 concession and £3 for students.

    We are putting on a performance of Tomfoolery on Friday October 14th in the Bonar Hall at 7.30pm. A comedy revue based on the songs of Tom Leher, numbers include "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park", "I got it from Agnes" and "The Vatican Rag". Monies raised will go towards Million for a Morgue. Tickets available here.

    The University music groups all resume the week beginning September 12th. OPSOC will be starting work on Spring Awakening and the choirs and orchestra are working towards their Nautical but Nice concert on November 2nd.

    The University Choir and Orchestra will be giving their final concert of the session on March 23rd at 7pm in St Paul's Cathedral, Dundee. The programme consists of Guilmant's Symphony for Organ and Orchestra No. 1 and Haydn's Nelson Mass. The soloists for the Haydn will be drawn from our own students but we're delighted to welcome back a former organ scholar, Neil Smeaton as the soloist for the Guilmant. Tickets available on the door.

    OPSOC's production of Jesus Christ Superstar opens on Wednesday 16th March and runs until Saturday 19th March. The show takes place in the Bonar Hall at 7.30pm each night. Tickets available from here.

    Chamber Choir CD

    The Chamber Choir CD has finally been released. Recorded in March 2010 it features Victoria's Missa O quam Gloriosum as well as part songs/madrigals by composers such as Morley, Wilbye, Sullivan Stanford.

    Chamber Choir will be giving a concert in the University Chaplaincy Centre on Sunday 13th March at 5pm. Music to be performed includes numbers from Parry's Songs of Farewell as well as worked by Mendelssohn, Dowland and Campion.

    Music Society will be putting on a concert to thank their associate members on Saturday 5th March. The event begins at 12pm and there will be a short concert at 1pm. This will take place in the new Music Rooms in Cross Row.

    Music Society and OPSOC have now moved from their old rehearsal space in Airlie Place to new premises in the Microcomputing Centre. Despite some soundproofing issues, everybody is very happy with the increased amount of space for both rehearsing and storage.
