The Bach Consort will be performing the Passion-Pasticcio by Graun/Telemann/Bach and others on Good Friday in the University Chapel. Based on a cantata by Graun and expanded in Leipzig in the 1740s, this is the 3rd and final Graun Passion in the Bach Consort cycle. The choir will be peforming the work from an edition perpared by Graeme Stevenson and the band will be led by Beth Wyllie. Tickets £5 and are available on the door or here.

In St Peter's Free Church, the University Gospel Choir will be performing a wide variety of music ranging from contemporary pop and rock to spiritual folk, from show tunes to traditional African songs as well as old fashioned Gospel classics. Tickets £5. The concert starts at 7.30pm.

The Bach Consort will be giving a performance of music by JS & CPE Bach as well as Christoph Graupner in the University Chapel at 7pm. The main work in the progamme is CPE Bach's Magnificat to mark the 300th anniversary of his birth. The first half of the programme will include 2 Advents cantatas by JS Bach (Schwingt freudig euch empor) and Graupner (Auf Zion). The University Chamber Choir and Orchestra's first concert of the year will take place on 28th November in St Paul's Cathedral at 7.30pm. The Chamber Choir will perform Morten Lauridsen's "Les Chanson des Roses", Haydn's "Little Organ Mass"and Gjeilo's "Dark Night of the Soul" while the orchestra will be playing Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony and Schickele's "Unbegun" Symphony. The Bach Consort will be performing Graun's passion, Kommt her und schaut in the University Chapel on Good Friday. This beautifl work was composed is one of three that he composed. Handel liked it so much that he used bits of it in his own works. The guest soloists are Alison Beck and Mike Towers and the orchestra will be led by Beth Wyllie. University of Dundee Orchestra, Choirs and Big Band will all be performing at concerts this weekend. The orchestra will be playing Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in Eb, Weber's Overture to Oberon and Symphony No. 4 "Italian" by Mendelssohn. Byrd's Mass for 4 voices, Stanford's Irish Folk Songs Op 78 and madrigals by Morley will feature in the Chamber Choir's programme. The University Choir and Big Band will come together on the Sat night to perform the Best of Duke Ellington's Sacred Concertos while the first half will feature music by Nysted, Tippett and Big Band favourites. Tickets for the orchestra and choir/big band concerts are all £5 while for the Chamber Choir they are £4/ £3. All the concerts take place in the cathedral.

University of Dundee and Strathclyde University Concert Bands are coming together for a series of concerts in Glasgow and Dundee. The Bach Consort will be performing Graun's Der Tod Jesu in St Paul's Meadowside on 30th March at 7pm. THE passion work until the rediscovery of the Passions of Bach the text of this beautiful work was also set to music by Telemann. Rather than a re-telling of the Passion story with parts for Evangelist and Christ, it is more reflective on the story. We're delighted to welcome Emily Goad (soprano) and Jonathan Matheson Dear (tenor) who will be singing some of the solos. Tickets are only £5 and are available on the door or from Ticketsource.

The University Choirs and Orchestra will be putting on their first concert of the year on Wed October 24th at 7pm. The concert will tale place in St Paul's Cathedral, Castlehill and consist of music by lesser known composers of famous musical families: Bach, Haydn and Mozart. 2 of the major works are the Grand Piano Concerto in Eb by FXW Mozart (son of WA) and a Requiem by Michael Haydn (brother of FJ). Also included are pieces by J Christian Bach (son of JS), J Christoph Bach (1st cousin 1 removed of JS) and J Ludwig Bach (2nd cousin of JS ). Tickets are £7, £6 (concession) and £3 (students).

Although the principals have had a chance to look at their parts, all the direction, chorus work and band call will be done in 24 hours. A very busy term is in prospect with OPSOC putting on Spring Awakening, the music society preparing a concert of music by Holst, Rossini and Grieg and at the beginning of April, the Bach Consort will be performing Bach's St John Passion.

We are putting on a performance of Tomfoolery on Friday October 14th in the Bonar Hall at 7.30pm. A comedy revue based on the songs of Tom Leher, numbers include "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park", "I got it from Agnes" and "The Vatican Rag". Monies raised will go towards Million for a Morgue. The University Choir and Orchestra will be giving their final concert of the session on March 23rd at 7pm in St Paul's Cathedral, Dundee. The programme consists of Guilmant's Symphony for Organ and Orchestra No. 1 and Haydn's Nelson Mass. The soloists for the Haydn will be drawn from our own students but we're delighted to welcome back a former organ scholar, Neil Smeaton as the soloist for the Guilmant. Tickets available on the door.

Music Society and OPSOC have now moved from their old rehearsal space in Airlie Place to new premises in the Microcomputing Centre. Despite some soundproofing issues, everybody is very happy with the increased amount of space for both rehearsing and storage.
