The main exhibition space for the Tayside Medical History Museum is in the foyer of the Medical School at Ninewells Hospital - turn left as you enter the main hospital concourse and you'll find it at the end of the corridor. Here we have both permanent displays and our changing exhibitions. The space is open daily 9am-5pm and by appointment at other times.
We also have a temporary display case in the main concourse of Ninewells and two permanent displays - the DRI Memorial Wall at the far end of the concourse and a display of early X-ray equipment in the Radiology department.
Material from the collection is also used in exhibitions elsewhere on campus and further afield...

This exhibition charts the progress of diagnosis and treatment of heart disease over the past century, concentrating on achievements within Tayside. The roots of modern cardiology can be traced to a small farm outside Scone in Perthshire, where the noted general practitioner and cardiologist Sir James Mackenzie was born. Mackenzie revolutionised the investigation of heart disease and at the start of the 20th century he was widely recognised as the world authority on the heart.
From modest beginnings at Dundee Royal Infirmary in the 1920s, the Cardiology department in Dundee has flourished into an international centre of excellence. The exhibition covers the pioneering cardiac catheterisation studies of Sir Ian Hill's team in the 1950s and 60s through to more recent developments in diagnosis, imaging and therapy. This includes ground-breaking research now being undertaken into new drug therapies in Dundee and remarkable technological advances in the visualisation, teaching and treatment of heart disease.

This exhibition looks at some of the equipment and visual aids that have been used in medicine to study and measure different aspects of the human body. The objects date from the early years of Dundee's medical school in the 1890s up to more recent times.
Some of the material was used in general examination of the body, others to measure specific factors that help to diagnose certain diseases or other health problems. There are also models and charts used to teach students the 'pre-clinical' subjects of Anatomy and Physiology.

Various works of art decorate the Medical School foyer area and lecture theatres, including the two shown above.
On the left is Sir William Ogilvy Dalgleish by Walter William Ouless. Dalgleish (1832-1913) was the principal benefactor of the University Medical School.
On the right is Sir John Ogilvy by R Peyton Reid (a copy of an earlier portrait by Sir George Reid). Ogilvie (1803-90) was Life Director of Dundee Lunatic Asylum and President of the Board of Directors at Dundee Royal Infirmary.
