Employment Law covers many legal aspects of the employment relationship. This includes the legal status of different kinds of worker through to end of contract.

You will learn of the history of employment law to the present-day. Plus how the law attempts to strike a balance between employers and employees.

You will also learn about important laws relating to Trade Unions and Equality. These are as relevant outside the workplace as within.

We will also cover Health and Safety matters and how these apply to the workplace.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn about the institutional framework of Employment Law
  • understand the contractual foundations of the employment relationship
  • explore unfair and wrongful dismissals
  • study redundancy and reorganisations
  • discuss equality in employment
  • gain insight of Stress at work, bullying and harassment, Health and Safety and the gig economy

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand employment law in its social, political and economic contexts
  • describe the current challenges in employment law
  • complete independent legal research
