GENERAL INFORMATION

Food issues affect the economic climate, the health of the nation, consumer confidence in government and individual leisure and lifestyle agendas. Understanding consumer food choices and dietary behaviour are clear requirements for assisting economic development and wealth creation but are also essential for improving health and quality of life in the 21st century.

  • To provide a multi-disciplinary focus for research on diet between medical, social, behavioural and biological scientists
  • To develop research in food issues, nutrition and diet within the University of Dundee
  • To develop research programmes in partnership with government agencies, local and national health education agencies, food producers, manufacturers and retailers, consumer and community organisations
  • To support and develop current research on understanding the influences on dietary behaviour and implications for health
  • To maintain and expand consumer relevant food research.

The development of teaching materials, short courses and relevant training for professional groups in public health nutrition will be included within the centre. The public health nutrition area is of major interest to the general public, academic and professional audiences.
