As a young doctor in training for his or her final specialist post, there is a
requirement for increasing responsibility to his or her patients. For
physicians in training the basic qualification and entry to higher specialsit training is
the Diploma of Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom
(MRCP(UK)), which is a common membership examination shared between the Royal College of
Physicians of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the
Royal College of Physicians of London.
The fundamental purpose of our post graduate course is to educate physicians. The prime objective of all professionals, physicians included, is to apply a sophisticated body of knowledge and skills to the solution of problems faced by people. In doing so, the individual will follow self-imposed standards of performance - standards that will be higher than those required legally. The physician professional is a morally responsible, action-oriented problem solver on behalf of people .
The membership course complements the other aspects of the educational programme enjoyed by all young phsysicans in Tayside.
For young physicians preparing to sit the MRCP(UK) Examination *, courses are organised at Ninewells Hospital & Medical School.
* These courses are for doctors in training in the Tayside and surrounding areas of Scotland and are not suitable for overseas doctors.
The MRCP(UK) Committee co-ordinates these courses for the Postgraduate Dean.
Dr R S MacWalter is currently the chairman of this committee.
