Before joining DHSRU in October 2004, Debbie worked as a Research Fellow at the Universities of St Andrews and Aberdeen, working closely with Professor Marie Johnston and Professor Martin Eccles (University of Newcastle).
Debbie's main area of interest is the application of psychology models in health services research. Her focus is on using theoretical frameworks to construct health-related measures for use in practical situations and developing theory-based interventions to implement research evidence. A related area of interest is developing more efficient trial methods, particularly in terms of intervention selection and evaluation.
- PRIME (Process Modelling in Implementation research): "Exploring the theoretical basis of organisational and health care professional behaviour and behaviour change." The project objectives are to determine the extent to which psychological constructs can predict practitioner (GP and GDP) behaviour and thereby to identify variables that might be appropriate targets for interventions to increase evidence-based practice.
- CSO/SHEFC/Scottish Consortium funded ERUPT study: "The effect of remuneration and education on the implementation of research evidence to reduce inequalities in oral health."
Debbie is also a consultant on numerous projects relating to dental training and dental guideline implementation.
