A member of the research support team at DHSRU, Brian is involved in supporting a variety of research projects with the Unit and has administrative as well as research responsibilities. Brian graduated with a degree in applied zoology and followed this with postgraduate studies in biochemistry and a doctorate in immunology. His career has included research into invertebrate and human immune systems, studies on anaemia in rheumatoid arthritis, potential tissue degrading enzymes in bronchiectasis, and interactions between leucocyte cell surface receptors and immunoglobulins in man. He has also worked in the biotechnology industry in the development of in vitro diagnostic reagents and kits. Within the DHSRU, he has been involved in the Scottish Health Board's Dental Epidemiological Programme / Scotland’s National Dental Inspection Programme, the European Global Oral Health Indicators Development Project, and with helping to organise and run the Scottish Dental Vocational Practitioner Research Programme. He takes an interest in the promotion of evidence-based practice and is web master of DHSRU website, Tuith Online, the BASCD website, the Community Dental Health website, and the EADPH website.
