The Cuschieri Skills Centre, (CSC) is located in Ninewells Hospital & Medical School, and this State-of-the-art surgical skills teaching facility was opened in 1992 by Professor Sir Alfred Cuschieri to provide a safe environment for teaching and training in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.
The Centre currently provides a large range of skills training courses in laparoscopic general surgery and also training courses in a variety of other surgical specialties (e.g. ENT, endoscopy, urology, orthopaedics) at basic, intermediate and advanced levels.
The mission of the Cuschieri Skills Centre in 2011 is to provide high quality skills training to meet the learning requirements of local, national and international healthcare professionals within the surgical specialties.
Technological advances and innovations require new skills to be mastered and the centre designs programmes to facilitate these ongoing requirements. The custom-built facility includes interventional human anatomy, virtual reality simulation, micro-surgery operating microscopes, an operating theatre, fully equipped laparoscopic training laboratories, and advanced surgical skills training on Thiel human cadavers – which all combine to form one of the most innovative surgical training facilities in Europe.
The surgical laboratories are equipped with the latest HD laparoscopic equipment and sponsored by Karl Storz-Endoskope, who have an excellent reputation for innovation and training in endoscopic surgery. Our expert local Faculty are supported by a panel of expert External Faculty from across Europe to ensure the highest quality is maintained in surgical skills training.
In 2009-2010 the Cuschieri Skills Centre delivered 65 taught post-graduate skills courses to 900 delegates across 10 surgical specialties. We look forward to welcoming you to one of our future surgical skills training course in 2011.
